February was a different type of month. Our weather here in southern Illinois has constantly changed from nice spring weather with flooding rains, to frigid cold along with some very strong 50+ mph winds that stressed our wire antennas. I was glad I put mine back up with the Kevlar paracord as I watched the trees swaying. I hope they are correct that March will go out like a lamb but it also begins our tornado season. An Auxiliary Communications (AUXCOMM) course will be held on February 25 - 26 at the Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, IL. This course is designed for auxiliary communicators who volunteer to provide backup emergency communications support to "public safety" agencies. This course focuses on auxiliary communications interoperability, the relationship between the COML and AUXC volunteers, emergency operations center (EOC) etiquette, on-the-air etiquette, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations, auxiliary communications training and planning, and emergency communications deployment.
